What are the Salary Structures in Saudi Arabia?

All expats have a dream to fulfill on materialistic world and this is not possible without "Money". "Money" is the most important factor an expats considers when he thinks about moving out of his home town, country and away from family. Here are some guidelines for you on the subject.

In Saudi Arabia, your Salary package must have following minimum and anything above this would be great:

1. Basic Salary: Min 3000SR (graduates are above). For Labour and Technicians under supervision (min SR1800). Anything lower than this is a disaster.
2. HRA (Housing Allowance) (it must be atleast 25% of Basic) (not applicable for company provided flat).
3. TA (Travelling Allowance) (at least 10% of basic, some company may offer fixed charges from SR350-950) (not applicable for company provided car/pool vehicle).
4. FA (Food Allowance): SR300 and above. Some company club this with HRA. (not applicable for company provided food).
5. Yearly Vacation Allowance (1 months basic salary). For Europeans/USA citizen, company provides 6months paid Vacation (added 21.8.12).
6. Return Air Ticket for self (if family status for family).
7. Other allowance like Mobile Allowance, Hardship allowance etc may also expected from companies.
8. End of Service (usually paid when going on Exit): 15 days basic salary for every year worked. Calculated on last salary drawn.

Note that above is not for employee who get Hourly payment. Hourly payment varies from profession to profession and usually you get paid more, but the catch is that in many case for hourly payment, companies might not give other benefits like HRA, FA and other. But if you are able to get a deal along with other benefits kudos.

Just for Guidance hour rate you can expect:
Carpenter,Shuttering Carpenter, Labour, Mason, helper : SR10 to SR 21/per hour.
Engineers: SR50 and above
Specialised Engineers: SR75 above

Sometimes, if you are lucky you may be also offer USD per hour. Calculate the same in SR @3.75 which is fixed pegged rates for USD. Note that for US/Europeans its always in USD (added 21.8.12)

Then comes whether you have been given Single working status or Family Status. If Single Status, nothing more than above you can expect. If Family Status, you can expect following for your Spouse and 2/3/4 kids depending on company what they might offer you.


1. All cost related to bringing your family i.e. Travel Air Ticket/Iqama/medical expense/Medical Card
2. House furnishing allowance3. School Tuition Allowance4. Return Air Ticket Allowance5. Relocation Allowance. 6. Extra Baggage Allowance

Remember, many of above benefits are sometime linked with internal company policies to be eligible. Hence, you may or may not get these, subject to fulfilling those. So, ensure you ask the company all these clarification even if they have mention on the offer letter.

Next check with company, when is their salary being paid. Mostly companies pay between 1st and 7th of every month.

Now, the big question is how much I ask Salary. This is a difficult question to answer, as everybody has their own needs and requirements.

But my advice, as a thumb rules is do not accept any salary less than 3 times your current salary in home country. In the worst case scenario, if you are first timer and low in experience, then ofcourse not less the 2 times your salary. Anything less than this, you are undervaluing yourself and will struggle to go up and do any saving.
